About Me

"You are assisting at someone else's birth. Do good without show or fuss... If you must take the lead, lead so that the mother is helped, yet still free and in charge.  When the baby is born, the mother will rightly say: we did it outselves!" Dao De Jing, 500 BC

Background

My name is Rachel Ford and I am a mother to three beautiful children, an experienced Certified Doula, a childbirth educator, a Breastfeeding Counsellor with the Australian Breastfeeding Association, a Certified Infant Massage Instructor, and Certified Gottman Educator (Bringing Baby Home program).

I believe that pregnancy and birth is a celebration of life and womanliness, and I am honored each time a woman invites me to become a part of her process. I find great joy and inspiration in providing support for women engaged in this intense, transformative and rewarding journey.  My practice is dedicated to providing holistic support to help each woman create her own unique and satisfying birth and mothering experience.

I have supported women birthing at home, hospital and birth centre: including natural births, water births, lotus births, VBAC and VBA2C (vaginal birth after caesarean), twins, vaginal breech births, medically-assisted births, caesarean births, women and partners with disabilities, premature and sick babies, IVF and surrogate pregnancies, and women who have abuse or trauma in their past.

My clients have ranged from first-time parents, to parents expecting their fifth baby. Some parents are very young, others are having their first baby at 42. Some women are single, others are supported by a partner, family or friends at the birth. Whatever 'package' my clients come in, I help them to have the positive and empowering birth experience they deserve.

Aside from birth, breastfeeding and babies, my other passions include my children, reading (voraciously!), nutrition, herbal medicine, organics, baby/child development, attachment/connection parenting, photography, respecting and enjoying this amazing planet of ours - and always learning!
